Womb Rituals

Tara’s interdisciplinary art project returns to the essence of being human. From a dark, mystical space of nothingness, we emerge: the mother’s warm womb, where our body came into existence, the vagina as our first portal into the world as we know it now.

Born in 2022 during her Master in Fine Arts, this project became Tara’s way to unite body, mind, and spirit within her artistic practice. Drawing from her practice of yoga, tantra, and shamanic traditions, she began painting with menstrual blood — a sacred and politicised fluid that, when embraced creatively, becomes a source of healing and empowerment.

This project comes to life through its interaction with the audience. Between 2022 and 2025, Tara has exhibited the Womb Rituals on seven occasions. Each iteration invites reflection, vulnerability, dialogue, and new perspectives on menstruation and the body. Many women describe feeling seen, grateful, and empowered after encountering the work. The project invites a movement from shame towards embodied expression, opening space to honour and celebrate our shared humanness.
